Additional information

Manoli was one of Berlin's most prominent cigarette manufacturers in the early twentieth century, operating factory canteen (Kantine) token systems to manage internal commerce among workers. These zinc issues circulated exclusively within the facility's canteen, functioning as scrip redeemable for food, drink, or goods — a practice widespread in German industrial operations before stricter labor regulations curtailed it.

Zinc was the pragmatic choice for low-denomination factory tokens: cheap, easily struck, and worthless enough to discourage hoarding or external speculation.
