Beschrijving voorzijde Printed on green-tinted paper in dark blue letterpress, the obverse carries the large Gothic numeral '1' at upper left alongside the denomination 'Pfennig' in bold blackletter script. To the left, a circular vignette bears a bearded portrait bust — likely a civic or heraldic device — encircled by a wreath and crossed keys, serving as the municipal seal of Trebnitz. The payment text, issuance place, and year 'Trebnitz, Kriegsjahr 1917' are set in Gothic typeface, with the issuing authority 'Der Magistrat' and a manuscript signature appearing at lower right; a validity notice is printed vertically along the right margin.

Opmerkingen

Trebnitz — now Trzebnica in southwestern Poland — was a small Silesian market town with no particular monetary infrastructure, which is precisely why the local Magistrat found itself issuing fractional Pfennig notes in 1917. The wartime copper shortage had pulled virtually all small coin from circulation across Germany, forcing municipal authorities at every level to fill the gap with locally printed Notgeld. At 1 Pfennig, this sits at the absolute floor of that emergency coinage substitute system.

The DeNG reference suffix "a" indicates a recognized variant within the T17.2 subtype — likely a paper stock or ink color distinction catalogued from surviving examples.
