| Aanvullende informatie |
Hildesheim occupied an unusual constitutional position throughout the eighteenth century — a Prince-Bishopric within the Holy Roman Empire whose municipal coinage authority was perpetually contested between the city council and the episcopal administration. The small copper issues of 1762–1772 fall squarely within this jurisdictional friction, struck by the city itself rather than the bishop's mint during a period when the two governing bodies were actively disputing fiscal prerogatives following the disruptions of the Seven Years' War.
