| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned and quartered coat of arms of the city of Nürnberg, displaying the Franconian rake (barry of gold and black) and the imperial eagle. The legend reads '+ S.1. ₰' with the date split on either side of the shield, as exemplified by '16' to the left and '89' to the right. A cross (☩) appears in the lower right corner below the date. The overall design is characteristic of the small hammered billon pfennig coinage issued by the Free Imperial City during the late 17th century. |
