| Obverse description | Crowned gothic letter G occupies the central field, rendered in an ornate calligraphic style characteristic of early 17th-century German municipal coinage. A small crown surmounts the letter, serving as the civic symbol of the city of Göttingen. Where present, the date is divided by the letter G, with numerals appearing to either side in the field.
