Obverse description Facing bearded bust of St. Paul within a beaded inner circle, rendered in a crude but expressive late medieval style. The apostle is depicted with long flowing beard and hair, his face shown frontally. The surrounding circular legend reads SANC. PAVLV - (S.) APOSTOL, separated by the inner beaded border. The coin is struck within a plain outer rim with a beaded border.

Reverse description A bold numeral 'I' denoting the denomination of one Pfennig, centrally placed within a beaded inner circle. The circular legend BVRSA. DOMINORV. A(o). 1591 surrounds the inner circle, with the date 1591 incorporated at the conclusion of the inscription. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border and plain outer rim. The coin reportedly bears a lily countermark associated with the year 1591.
