Obverse description Shield of arms displaying a horseshoe, centrally positioned within a plain rectangular border; the shield occupies the majority of the field. The entire design is enclosed by a peripheral beaded border of large raised pellets arranged in a semicircular fashion around the upper portion of the coin. The strike is typical of early sixteenth-century hammered coinage, with irregular flan edges and uneven surface relief.
