Tiengen, a small lordship on the upper Rhine near the Swiss border, issued coinage under the authority of the Counts of Sulz during this period. The late 14th century saw a proliferation of such bracteate-style minor silver pieces across the fragmented southwestern German territories, as local lords exercised minting rights granted or tacitly tolerated under the loose framework of imperial privilege.
The Berger and Bonhoff references place this among documented but genuinely scarce regional issues — survival rates for single-pfennig coinage of minor lordships from this era are low precisely because the pieces circulated hard and were eventually demonetized without ceremony.
