| Obverse description | Bipartite inner field enclosed within a beaded circle, divided vertically: the dexter side bears three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a column, while the sinister side displays a crowned eagle facing left. The design is rendered in the flat, stylized manner characteristic of late medieval Italian hammered coinage. A Gothic legend in Latin encircles the entire field, invoking the name and titles of the French king as lord of Savona. |

Savona's monetary autonomy during this period was perpetually contested — the city oscillated between Genoese domination and periods of nominal independence under Milanese or French influence, and the petachina coinage belongs to one of the more precarious windows of local lordship control before Genoa definitively absorbed the mint in the early fifteenth century. The denomination itself is regional to the Ligurian coastal mints and rarely appears in broader medieval numismatic surveys.
