Additional information

The Galatea is a Spanish Navy training frigate, built in 1896 and still in active service as a sail training vessel — one of the longest-serving ships of her type anywhere in the world. Cuba's decision to feature her reflects the enduring naval ties between the island and Spain, a relationship that survived and outlasted the political ruptures of 1898 in ways that formal history tends to understate.

KM#825 is part of a broader Cuban commemorative peso program from this period that flooded the collector market, keeping secondary market values modest despite low domestic circulation.
