In the upper register, the facing busts of Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand II are depicted side by side, their reigns indicated by the dates 1474–1504 to the left and 1475–1516 to the right; a ribbon scroll below their effigies bears the Latinized names ELISABET and FERNANDVS. In the lower register, the conjoined busts of Philip I and Joanna of Castile face one another, flanked by the dates 1506 to the left and 1504–1555 to the right, with a scroll below bearing the legend PHILIPPVS • IOANNAV.
