Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three quarters: the upper portion displays a golden key between two promontories over blue waves symbolizing the island's strategic position, the middle band bears the Phrygian cap atop a pole flanked by fasces, and the lower quarter displays diagonal blue and white stripes. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a pole and flanked on either side by a branch of oak to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied together at the base. A five-pointed star adorns each side of the legend within the rope-beaded border. The circular legend reads REPUBLICA DE CUBA around the upper periphery, with the denomination 1 PESO below the shield.
