Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, this coin appeared as Fidel Castro's public role had effectively ended — he had transferred presidential authority to his brother Raúl in 2008 following a prolonged illness, making this one of the first official Cuban issues to depict both brothers together on circulating coinage.
