Aanvullende informatie

Rafael Carrera ruled Guatemala as a largely self-educated mestizo caudillo who had risen through the ranks as a pig farmer before commanding indigenous and ladino forces against the Liberal reforms of the 1830s. By the time these pesos were struck, he had already declared himself president-for-life in 1854. The coins bearing his name circulated under a government that had systematically reversed the Central American Federation's Liberal policies, restoring Church privileges and reinstating conservative governance across the region.

Carrera died in office in April 1865, making the final year of this issue the last coinage struck during his lifetime.
