The Banco Provincial de Santa Fé was a provincially chartered institution operating during Argentina's era of free banking, when individual provinces issued their own currency largely independent of any central authority. This note, payable at the Rosario branch, reflects the commercial weight of that city — by the 1870s Rosario was already the dominant grain export port on the Paraná, and branch-specific issues were a practical necessity rather than an administrative formality.

The PS-813 and PS-814 pairing is essentially the same note differentiated only by place-of-payment text, which creates attribution problems when that area has been trimmed or damaged.
