Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion bears a rising sun over a seascape between two headlands, the middle band displays a key symbolizing Cuba's strategic position, and the lower section features a royal palm tree flanked by mountains. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a staff encircled by a five-pointed star, and flanked by a wreath of laurel on the right and oak on the left, tied at the base. The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 1 PESO appears in the lower field.
