Obverse description A highly detailed Andean condor stands facing right with wings fully spread, its right talon resting upon the Chilean national shield adorned with a star and diagonal bands. The bird is rendered in high relief with finely engraved feather detail, perched on rocky ground. The national motto legend arcs across the upper field, and the date 1868 appears in the lower exergual area flanked by two five-pointed stars.
