1 Peso Oro

Thomas De La Rue printed the Dominican Republic's peso oro series through much of the 1970s, a period when the country's currency was still nominally pegged at par with the U.S. dollar — a peg the Banco Central maintained with increasing difficulty as import costs rose and export revenues from sugar became unreliable. The peso-dollar parity, enshrined in law since 1947, would survive formally until the mid-1980s, but by 1973 the practical gap between official and black-market rates was already widening.

P#107 carries a single security layer: a watermark. Modest for a De La Rue production, suggesting the 1 peso denomination was considered low enough risk that elaborate intaglio security was reserved for higher values in the series.
