Beschrijving keerzijde A detailed depiction of the Nao Victoria, the first vessel to circumnavigate the globe as part of Magellan's expedition (1519–1522), is rendered in high relief at the center of the field, shown under full sail with multiple masts, rigging, pennants, and lateen sails billowing outward as the ship navigates stylized ocean waves. The name NAO VICTORIA is inscribed within a banner-like cartouche in the lower central field, with the date 1994 appearing below in the exergue, separated by a decorative scrollwork device.

Aanvullende informatie

The Nao Victoria was the only vessel to complete Magellan's circumnavigation of 1519–1522, returning to Seville under Juan Sebastián Elcano with 18 survivors from an original crew of roughly 270. Cuba's hard-currency collector peso series of the 1990s — issued explicitly for the tourist and export market, not domestic circulation — drew heavily on Spanish maritime history, partly as a commercial calculation aimed at Spanish and European buyers. This coin never passed through a Cuban hand in ordinary trade.
