The Banco Provincial de Córdoba was one of several provincial banks operating under Argentina's pre-1890 decentralized banking regime, which allowed individual provinces to issue their own currency largely free from federal oversight. This arrangement collapsed spectacularly in the Baring Crisis of 1890, after which the Caja de Conversión assumed control of note issuance and most provincial bank paper was called in.
Notes from Córdoba's provincial series are genuinely difficult to locate in any condition — the bank's total circulation was modest relative to Buenos Aires or Entre Ríos, and the 1873 redemption and reissue cycles reduced surviving populations further. The PS designation places this firmly in the Specialized catalogue's provincial and private bank listings rather than the main Argentine sequence.
