Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: a golden key between two landmasses on the upper portion symbolizing Cuba's position between the Americas, three blue and white stripes in the middle section, and a royal palm tree on the lower portion. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a pike and flanked by laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 PESO appears in the lower field.

The curved legend FAUNA EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCION arcs diagonally across the central field.
