Additional information

Capablanca held the World Chess Championship from 1921 to 1927 and remains one of the few players in history never to have lost a tournament game across entire multi-year stretches of competitive play. Cuba issued several collector-oriented peso pieces through the late 1980s under a hard-currency export program — coins minted not for domestic circulation but for foreign exchange revenue, sold directly to overseas collectors and dealers.

The 1988 copper-nickel striking is the more common variant; a silver proof version was issued concurrently for the premium collector market.
