Obverse description The Mexican national arms — an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a serpent, supported by an oak and laurel branch — are depicted within a trapezoidal cartouche at center. The weight and fineness designations appear below the cartouche in the lower field, outside the figure. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription 1/4 ONZA DE PLATA LEY 0.999 is inscribed along the lower periphery.

Reverse description A stylized pre-Columbian stone carving of a jaguar, rendered in a Mesoamerican artistic style, is depicted centrally within a trapezoidal cartouche. The nominal value $1 is inscribed in the lower field below the cartouche.
