Obverse description The obverse is divided vertically into two fields. The left half features the Cuban national coat of arms — comprising a shield with a key between two capes, a rising sun over the sea, and a royal palm, flanked by an oak branch and laurel wreath, surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a lance — with the legend 'REPÚBLICA DE CUBA' arched above. The denomination '1 PESO' appears in the lower left field. The right half of the coin lists in vertical column the names of ten Latin American nations: ARGENTINA, BOLIVIA, CHILE, COLOMBIA, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, MEXICO, URUGUAY, and VENEZUELA.
