Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional shield with a key between two promontories, a rising sun, and a royal palm tree, surmounted by the Phrygian cap above fasces and an oak and laurel branch on either side. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 PESO appears in the lower exergual area. The design follows the standard national arms type employed on Cuban coinage of the period.
