The Negros Emergency Currency Board was one of several provincial and municipal bodies that sprang up across the Philippine islands after the Japanese occupation disrupted the existing monetary supply. Negros Occidental operated with considerable autonomy during this period, and its emergency issues were backed by local agricultural wealth — primarily sugar — rather than any central reserve. That backing was as much a statement of regional self-sufficiency as it was a practical arrangement.

The green seal variant of this series is the detail worth knowing: seal color on Negros issues distinguishes authorization batches, and not all variants circulated equally widely before liberation in 1945 ended the Board's mandate.
