Banco Entre-Riano was a provincial bank operating out of Entre Ríos, one of the Argentine Confederation's more autonomous provinces under Justo José de Urquiza, whose political grip on the region effectively made provincial banking instruments semi-sovereign in practice. By 1864 that dominance was eroding — Urquiza had lost Pavón in 1861, and Buenos Aires was reasserting federal control over provincial finance. A note of this vintage, from this issuer, sits at the edge of that political and monetary transition.
PS#1655 is rare in any condition. The bank's short operational life and limited geographic reach meant small print runs, and survival rates are correspondingly poor.
