| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse is entirely blank, with a uniformly smooth, unadorned field devoid of any legend, device, or inscription. This intentionally plain surface is characteristic of a reverse trial piece, produced to test the obverse die or planchet without committing to a finished reverse design. |

Trial pieces for the Fall of Bataan peso were produced in the late 1960s as the Philippine government explored commemorative coinage programs tied to World War II anniversaries. The Bataan Death March of April 1942 — in which tens of thousands of Filipino and American prisoners of war were forced to march over 60 miles under brutal conditions — was among the most politically charged subjects the mint could have selected. That this reverse trial survives in brass rather than the intended issue metal suggests it was struck purely for design approval, not circulation testing.
