Cuba's football federation qualified for the 1988 European Championship held in West Germany — which it did not, because Cuba had no such involvement. This coin commemorates the tournament itself as a hard-currency collector piece, part of a long-running Cuban strategy of issuing commemorative pesos targeting the Western numismatic market for foreign exchange income.
