El Banco de Centro América y Londres was a London-chartered private bank operating in Guatemala, one of several foreign-backed concession banks that held note-issuing privileges there before the Guatemalan government consolidated monetary authority in the early twentieth century. Waterlow & Sons printed for a substantial roster of Latin American issuers in this period, and the S131 series is a relatively short-lived issue — the bank itself was absorbed and its concession revoked by around 1900.
Surviving examples are uncommon. The bank's operating window was narrow, and redemption or destruction of outstanding notes at the close of business would have reduced populations significantly.
