Reverse description A detailed draped bust portrait of Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, the Spanish conquistador and first governor of Cuba, is rendered in high relief at the center of the field, facing the viewer in a three-quarter frontal pose, with a full beard and period costume featuring a quilted doublet visible at the shoulders. The bust is framed by two olive branches joined at the base in a wreath arrangement. The arc legend V CENTENARIO curves along the upper periphery, flanked by five-pointed stars, commemorating the quincentenary of the discovery of the Americas. The date 1991 appears to the lower left of the portrait and 1492 to the lower right, while the name DIEGO VELAZQUEZ is inscribed along the lower arc, all within a rope-style border.
