| Opmerkingen |
The Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires was one of the oldest provincial banks in Argentina, and by 1883 it occupied an unusual position — nominally subordinate to the national financial system established after the 1880 federalization of Buenos Aires, yet still issuing its own paper with considerable autonomy. This note was printed by the American Bank Note Company at their Manhattan facility, which handled a substantial portion of South American fiduciary work in this period, often sharing design elements across client institutions.
The PS prefix in Pick's catalogue places this firmly in the specialized provincial and private bank section — not national issue, which matters for understanding its legal tender scope at the time of circulation.
