1 Peso Comisión de Extinción de Billetes

The Comisión de Extinción de Billetes — the Commission for the Extinction of Notes — was not a new issuing authority but rather a redemption mechanism, established to retire depreciated circulating paper from earlier emissions. Issuing notes through a body literally named for eliminating notes has a certain fiscal irony to it. The Junta de Crédito Público was the Argentine national credit authority responsible for managing the transition.

ABNC engraved and printed this series in New York, as with much of Latin American currency production in this period. Argentine institutions relied heavily on ABNC throughout the 1870s, when domestic printing infrastructure was nowhere near adequate for secure fiduciary work.
