Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with a key between two headlands above waves in the upper portion, a landscape with a rising sun in the middle, and diagonal stripes in the lower portion, surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a lance and flanked by a wreath of oak leaves to the left and laurel to the right. Two five-pointed stars appear in the lower field on either side of the wreath. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination UN PESO is inscribed along the lower periphery, all in raised Latin lettering.
