| Obverse description | Printed in blue and salmon-pink on white paper, the obverse carries the Cuban national coat of arms within a circular vignette to the left, inscribed with 'BANCO NACIONAL DE CUBA'. A large central guilloche rosette in salmon-pink bears the numeral '1' and the legend 'UN PESO', flanked to the right by a second circular guilloche pattern. Cuba's Foreign Exchange Certificate system ran parallel to the standard peso throughout the 1980s, issued to tourists and foreign nationals who were required to exchange hard currency at state-controlled rates. The "Round C" designation distinguishes this issue from the earlier "Square C" series — a straightforward security measure to prevent the older certificates from being used interchangeably, since both designs were still in circulation simultaneously.
Státní Tiskárna Cenin in Prague printed the bulk of Cuban paper currency during this period, a natural arrangement given Cuba's political alignment with the Eastern Bloc. The certificates were formally abolished in 1989, replaced by a revised system before the convertible peso arrived in the 1990s.
