Obverse description The national arms of Bolivia occupy the central field, depicting an oval shield flanked by laurel and olive branches tied at the base, surmounted by the Andean condor with spread wings. The shield displays the sun rising behind the Cerro Rico and Cerro Menor, a chapel in the middle ground, and a palm tree and llama in the foreground. Ten stars are arranged in a row below the shield, representing the ten departments of Bolivia prior to the War of the Pacific. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA runs along the upper periphery.
