Bolivia redenominated its currency in 1963, replacing the Boliviano with the Peso Boliviano at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — one of the more severe devaluations in Latin American monetary history at the time, driven by chronic inflation that had rendered low-denomination Boliviano notes effectively worthless. This 1962 printing predates that official changeover by a matter of months, making it a transitional issue printed in anticipation of the reform rather than a response to immediate crisis.
Thomas De La Rue produced the series under contract, as they did for much of Bolivia's mid-century output.
