The Negros Emergency Currency Board was one of several provincial guerrilla currency authorities that issued notes during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. Negros Occidental, relatively isolated and with an active resistance network, managed to sustain a functioning local economy partly through these emissions. The blue seal on this series distinguished it from concurrent Negros issues and from the red-seal variants in the same Pick sequence.
Guerrilla currency from Negros is among the more systematically documented of the Philippine resistance issues, but attrition from wartime use, humidity, and deliberate destruction after liberation means surviving examples skew heavily toward poor condition.
