1 Peso Banco de Occidente en Quezaltenango

The Banco de Occidente en Quezaltenango was one of several private regional banks operating in Guatemala before the government of Manuel Estrada Cabrera moved to nationalize and consolidate the country's banking system in the early twentieth century. The bank's base in Quezaltenango — Guatemala's second city and the commercial hub of the western highlands — gave it a distinct regional identity separate from the capital-based institutions that eventually absorbed it.

The American Bank Note Company produced this series across a span of decades, which accounts for the wide date range. Notes from the earlier issues within that window tend to be significantly scarcer than later printings.
