Banco de la Emancipación was established in Lima shortly after Peruvian independence, making it one of the earliest banking institutions in the newly sovereign republic. The bank was short-lived — it collapsed within a few years of issue, and its notes quickly lost public confidence in a circulation environment already hostile to paper money among a population conditioned to specie.

Pick S143 is among the rarest survivors of early Peruvian private banking, and the institution itself left almost no documentary trail in standard monetary histories.
