Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with a key between two rocky coastlines in the base canton, three diagonal blue and white stripes in the upper dexter, and a royal palm tree beneath a rising sun in the upper sinister. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a fasces and flanked by a wreath of oak leaves to the left and laurel to the right, tied at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs across the upper periphery in bold Latin characters, with a five-pointed star at each lateral extremity, while the denomination 1 PESO is inscribed along the lower exergual border.
