Banco del Pobre — "Bank of the Poor" — was a Chilean savings institution, and its note issue was a relatively brief commercial venture rather than a formal state banking operation. The American Bank Note Company produced the plates in New York, as it did for a significant portion of Latin American private bank paper during this period, when domestic printing infrastructure across the region could not match intaglio quality.

The S-prefix in the Pick reference places this firmly in the Specialized volume's Chilean private bank section — not mainstream circulation currency. Surviving examples are genuinely scarce.
