The P#56 series was printed by ABNCo under a long-standing contract that kept Mexican low-denomination production in New York well into the mid-twentieth century — a arrangement that periodically drew nationalist criticism in the Mexican press, given that Banco de México had been operational since 1925 and the country had adequate domestic printing infrastructure by this point.
The 1 Peso circulated heavily alongside coinage and wore out fast. High attrition rates mean that uncirculated survivors from the 1954 printings are genuinely less common than the series' long run might suggest.
