The Mindanao Emergency Currency Board was one of several guerrilla-aligned civilian authorities that issued scrip during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. These notes were produced under genuinely dangerous conditions — possession of unauthorized currency was treated by Japanese forces as evidence of resistance activity, punishable by death. The practical risk attached to carrying this note was not incidental; it was the defining circumstance of its use.
Mindanao held out longer than Luzon, and its interior regions sustained Filipino civil administration well into 1944–45. Emergency scrip from this board is less common than issues from some other Philippine provinces, partly because production and distribution were deliberately kept dispersed to avoid interdiction.
Three signatures authenticate this note: Chairman Florentino Saguin alongside members F.D. Pacana and I. Barbasa.
