The Seventh Military District guerrilla currency was authorized under U.S. Army command structures operating in the Philippine interior during the Japanese occupation. These notes circulated in areas where Japanese military scrip — contemptuously called "Mickey Mouse money" by Filipinos — had been imposed but was actively resisted. Local commanders were authorized to issue their own obligations against future U.S. redemption, a promise that was ultimately honored after liberation.

The handstamp security feature was a field expedient, applied to distinguish genuine notes from counterfeits produced by Japanese intelligence units specifically to destabilize guerrilla finance. Redemption records from 1945 confirm the Seventh District notes were accepted by U.S. Army finance officers at face value.
