The Negros Emergency Currency Board was one of several provincial guerrilla governments that issued currency during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. Negros Occidental maintained a functioning civil administration backed by American officers and Filipino resistance forces, and these notes were a deliberate assertion of continued legitimacy under Commonwealth authority — not a stopgap improvisation, but a coordinated wartime financial system.
S672 is among the lower denominations in the Negros 1944 series. Provincial emergency issues vary considerably in surviving quality because wartime paper stocks were inconsistent and storage conditions during the occupation were harsh. Counterfeits made by Japanese-sponsored authorities to undermine guerrilla economies are a documented problem across Philippine emergency issues generally.
