Negros Occidental issued its own emergency currency in 1942 after the Japanese invasion severed the island from Manila's banking infrastructure. The provincial government authorized a series of guerrilla notes to maintain local commerce — this 1 Peso is part of that series, produced locally under occupation conditions by Nalco Press rather than any established security printer.
These notes circulated alongside similar provincial issues from other Philippine islands, all operating outside Japanese-controlled channels. Nalco had no background in banknote production, and the printing quality reflects that.
