Opmerkingen

Banco Occidental was one of several Honduran private banks of issue operating under the 1889 banking law, which granted concessions to regional institutions rather than establishing a single central authority. The arrangement persisted until the early 1920s when the Honduran government began consolidating and eventually revoking private note-issuing privileges — making the entire output of these banks finite by design.

American Bank Note Company production for Central American clients during this period is generally well-executed, and surviving examples from this series occasionally show minor ink oxidation along the face printing, a known characteristic of some ABNC runs on thinner cotton stocks from this decade.
