Banco Salvadoreño was one of several competing private banks authorized to issue currency in El Salvador before the government moved to consolidate issuance under a single national bank in the 1920s. This note predates that centralization, placing it squarely in a period when Salvadoran monetary policy was effectively distributed across competing commercial institutions — each defending its own redemption credibility.
ABNC's engraved work from this period was produced on long-lived steel plates, and the same basic plate architecture was frequently reused across Latin American clients with minor modifications. Whether this specific design was original to Salvadoreño or adapted from an existing template is worth investigating before attributing artistic significance to it.
