| Obverse description | The reverse carries a central circular vignette engraved in letterpress style, depicting a suspension bridge over a river amid tropical landscape, likely the Puente de Occidente or a similar Colombian landmark. The Tesorería del Gobierno Provisional de Colombia issued this note during the Thousand Days War — the brutal civil conflict between Liberal and Conservative factions that ran from 1899 to 1902. Provisional government paper was a fiscal necessity: the established banking system had collapsed, and the treasury needed a circulating medium that could be produced quickly under wartime conditions.
Notes from this provisional series are notoriously difficult to authenticate, as counterfeiting was rampant during the conflict. The war ended with a peace treaty signed aboard the USS Wisconsin in November 1902.
